Our Workplace Absurdities Research

An ongoing research inquiry into how modern work shapes judgment, orientation, and behaviour under complex conditions.

BBHQ research currently spans multiple inquiry lines, including Workplace Absurdities Research and early-stage Behavioral Labs focused on judgment, orientation, and decision-making under complex conditions.

Satirical Sensemaking Behavioural Labs

Satirical Sensemaking Behavioural Labs

Satirical Sensemaking Behavioural Labs

We are conducting research labs focused on identifying early signals of strain in judgment, orientation, and decision-making.

Satirical Sensemaking Labs are designed to:

  • observe early signals of orientation loss
  • surface socially compressed language
  • examine how people test shared understanding under pressure

They are not training sessions, audits, or interventions.

These labs bring together field observations from across various industries, sectors and countries as satire and humour phrases and style differs culturally.

The purpose is to surface patterns before breakdowns become visible.

What we Investigate

Satirical Sensemaking Behavioural Labs

Satirical Sensemaking Behavioural Labs

This research examines how judgment, coordination, and orientation shift across individual, team, and organizational levels under sustained pressure.

Individual
What people start doing, saying, or suppressing just to stay oriented.

Team
How coordination, decision‑making, and trust quietly distort over time.

Organization

How structures, incentives, and rhythms reinforce behavior they never intended to create. Nothing here is framed as failure. Everything here is framed as response.

How this work shows up

Research outputs and sensemaking artifacts emerging from these inquiries include:

  • Briefs
Short, cinematic observations of lived workplace experience.
  • Deep Dives
Pattern analysis connecting repeated behaviors to specific Workplace Absurdities.
  • Field Notes & Satirical Signals
Humor, irony, and exaggeration used as early‑warning indicators, not entertainment.
  • The Workplace Absurdities Report
This investigation directly informs the report.

Why this matters

Most change efforts focus on behavior. This investigation focuses on what behavior is responding to.

When systemic strain go unnamed or not addressed:

  • People internalize pressure that belongs to the system
  • Teams normalize confusion and call it resilience
  • Organizations lose orientation while staying very busy

Naming these patterns restores perspective before action.

Orientation comes first.

Who this is for

 This work is for:

  • Leaders who know something has changed but can’t yet name what it is
  • Practitioners interested in surfacing patterns without blaming people
  • Institutions open to examining how systems quietly shape behavior under constraint

Current research focus - Q1 2026

Q1 Inquiry: Orientation
What are people experiencing and signaling right now that has not yet been named?

This investigation remains open. Patterns are still forming. Signals are still arriving.

If something here feels uncomfortably familiar, that is the point.

Nothing is wrong with you. Something is worth examining..
